A perpetually changing sensory experience
Designed by Maurici Ginés, this light art installation transports the imagination through a message filled with hope, symbolizing the birth of something new and longed-for, flooding the world around it with life.

In its beginnings, Designova was baptized as Designadal, a modern interpretation of the classic Christmas Star. This ever-evolving three-dimensional structure resembles the iconic image of a shooting star, a symbol deeply rooted in our collective consciousness, associated with wish fulfillment and guidance toward a brighter and more sustainable future.

The installation offers a constantly changing sensory experience. During the day, its elements flicker and reflect silver and golden flashes under natural light. However, as night falls, Designova comes to life, illuminating the sky with warm and enveloping tones, bathed in gold and red.

The term “Nova” refers to new stars born from astronomical events, such as supernovas, symbolizing the birth of something extraordinary. Designova transports observers to this exciting moment, creating a sense of timelessness and immersing them in stellar light.

To take this experience to the next level, Designova is accompanied by a soundtrack specially created for the piece. This immersive sound evokes the music of the stars as imagined by NASA, enhancing the immersion in this celestial experience.

The Designova structure, suspended in space, measures 4 x 4 x 7 meters. It is composed of nine lightweight layers, each weighing around thirty kilograms and separated by eighty centimeters. Furthermore, the installation is constructed with recyclable or reusable materials, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. ProtoPixel, programming experts, contributed to bringing the hypnotic light sequences to life.

The installation unfolds as a three-dimensional isotype sequenced over time, ultimately forming a star suspended in the air. It invites everyone to look up and make a wish during the festive season.

After captivating the audience at Disseny Hub Barcelona and festival-goers at the Off Llum Bcn light art festival, Designova continues its journey, much like a shooting star, in search of greater interaction and connection with people, descending upon Palo Alto Barcelona, offering everyone the unique opportunity to approach and fulfill the dream of touching a star.

“Designova conveys a message of hope, new beginnings, and vibrant life. This captivating experience is amplified by a space-inspired sound composition designed to transport us to the cosmos and allow us to hear the stars as we imagine that universe conceives them.”
