Reflections of the market life
Mercat dels Encants is a space of commerce deeply rooted in Barcelona that had been located in a space taken to the city for many years. In 2013, the City Council opened its doors to the new permanent market venue. The approach of the architecture project wanted to maintain the essence of the market, an open space that could easily be walked through, but include a covered space for protection from the sun and rain. A large space with a large roof was created. The roof had a peculiar configuration of reflective material plans that projected the life of what was happening in the market.
The lighting approach of this space was based on two lighting typologies. The first was to illuminate the sales booths. The second was designed to illuminate the passage space and the other stalls, as well as the space where the auction takes place. The final composition responds to the identity of the place and generates high quality lighting that optimally solves the program of the place and in turn contributes to the composition of the city’s night landscape.
