A Continuous Trace of Light.
The Venair Biotech facility in Terrassa brings together offices, laboratories and production environments within a single industrial complex dedicated to advanced silicone technology for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. Designed by architect Frans Masana, the building integrates workspaces, common areas and industrial functions within a clear architectural structure that establishes a gradual transition from the exterior landscape to the operational spaces of the facility.
The architecture is organized in two main bands. The front volume accommodates offices and shared areas for employees, while the industrial spaces unfold behind it. This configuration allows the first layer of the building to operate as the representative face of the company, mediating between the exterior environment and the more technical environments beyond. A defining gesture of the project is the curved glass façade that shapes the front of the building. Its soft curvature subtly references the geometry of the silicone tubing developed by Venair, establishing a conceptual link between the architecture and the company’s activity.
The lighting concept builds directly upon this relationship between architecture and production. The project adopts a clear and controlled luminous language based on continuity. Lines of light appear throughout the intervention as a continuous trace connecting exterior spaces, circulation areas and workplaces. As Maurici Ginés describes, “the concept was to transmit through light what the company produces: continuous linear elements.” This idea becomes the central narrative of the project, translating the industrial identity of Venair into spatial experience through light.
The exterior approach marks the beginning of this luminous sequence. Linear lighting integrated into the landscape and access areas guides visitors towards the entrance, establishing a precise visual orientation while revealing the geometry of the façade. Crossing the threshold, this luminous continuity extends into the interior. In circulation corridors, lines of light accompany movement through space, interacting with skylights that introduce natural daylight from above. At night, the lighting recreates a similar luminous effect, maintaining a calm and balanced atmosphere along the passage.
Within the office areas, a central linear luminaire structures the workspace, providing direct illumination for work surfaces while projecting indirect light onto the ceiling and revealing the curvature of the architecture. The same luminous language continues through staircases, circulation areas and common spaces, where light guides movement and articulates transitions between different parts of the building. Rather than functioning as isolated fixtures, these elements operate as a continuous system that interprets the architecture.
From the exterior landscape to the interior workspaces, the project unfolds as a continuous trace of light that accompanies movement through the building. This luminous line connects architecture, circulation and activity, revealing the geometry of the spaces while subtly evoking the continuous forms produced by Venair. Through this restrained language, lighting becomes both orientation and expression, translating the company’s industrial identity into a clear and coherent spatial experience.
